Job Title: Group Sales Representative

Date: January 2018

Reports to: Sales and Marketing Manager

FLSA Status: non-exempt

Job Status: Full-Time

Job Purpose: This position is responsible for seeking out new group, consignment and field-trip sales opportunities for Zoo Atlanta as well as maintaining existing group and consignment partnerships. This position will support offsite events, relevant conferences and trade shows, and sales meetings.


  • Essential Sales Responsibilities:

  • Actively pursue key group sales opportunities, consignment partners, and field trip leads to meet or exceed attendance and revenue goals.

  • Support the Sales and Marketing Manager in developing an annual sales and business plan to meet sales goals, and detail sales strategies that will be implemented.

  • Collaborates with the Sales and Marketing Manager on developing sales materials, messages and initiatives.

  • Generate sales leads and develop new group and consignment partnerships by using various sales methods including phone solicitation, personal visits, cold-calling, and attending networking events.

  • Ensure follow-up with prospective sales and appropriate zoo departments by passing leads to account managers with calls-to-action, dates, complete profile information, sources, etc.

  • Collaborate with various departments across the organization including but not limited to Advancement, Special Events, Public Events, Membership and Education to maximize Zoo Atlanta’s sales opportunities.

  • Make front-line assessment of market conditions and new sales trends and advise Sales and Marketing Manager.

  • Keep management informed by submitting activity and results reports.

  • Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Database for account management and reporting.

  • Oversee execution of onsite employee days for consignment partners.

  • Serve as main point of contact for group and consignment sales.

  • Participates in trade shows, offsite sales/tourism events and Zoo sponsored events as needed.

  • Maintain accurate records; including inbound/outbound email reports, sales call reports, billing invoices, monthly reports, CRM Database, and other documentation.

  • Support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission and Values statement.

  • Other projects or duties as assigned by Sales and Marketing Manager.


  • Education Level Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in sales, business, communications or other related field.

  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Previous sales experience required, non-profit experience a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to convert prospects and close deals while maintaining established sales quotas

  • Ability to effectively present information and ideas to varying levels in the organization and to groups of all sizes.

  • Strong knowledge of sales principles, innovative sales trends, methods, practices, and techniques

  • Proficient in MS Office and familiarity with Sales and CRM Database systems a plus

  • Exceptional written, verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Very strong organizational, research, and editorial skills

  • Resourcefulness, creativity and enthusiasm required

  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with customers, internal and external

  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team

  • Other requirements:

  • Flexible schedule as some evening, weekend and holiday work required

  • Self-motivated, with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must maintain a good driving record to drive Zoo vehicles.

  • Professional dress, appearance, and conduct.


  • Must be able to lift and carry 20 lbs.

  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Must be comfortable around all species, including snakes and spiders.
