Who you are: The Vice President of Human Resources is
a leadership role that is a working generalist with a chance to touch
all facets of human resources at Zoo Atlanta. This role serves as a
member of the Senior Leadership Team and is a vital collaborator with
all areas of the Zoo. We are seeking a service-driven leader with a
proven record of success working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
with experience developing people strategies that support a
mission-driven organization.
The ideal candidate has strong working knowledge of all functions of
human resources and accountability for each, including but not limited
to HRIS; policy development; talent acquisition (recruitment); total
rewards (compensation/benefits); compliance; employee relations;
employee engagement; human resources business strategy; learning
development; and occupational health. We seek an individual with the
ability to coach and partner at all levels of the organization and who
will play an active role in Zoo Atlanta’s diversity, equity, and
inclusion efforts.
A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree is required, with a
Master’s of Business Administration or SPHR-SCP or SPHR certification preferred.

Job Title: Vice President, Human Resources

Job Purpose: Responsible for all aspects of the Human
Resources function at Zoo Atlanta, including but not limited to
regulatory compliance, organizational policy administration,
recruitment and retention, payroll administration, worker’s
compensation, unemployment, compensation and benefits, employee
relations, training and development, and performance management.

JOB FACTORS:
Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities:
- Develops and manages a regulatory compliance program that ensures
transactions, processes, and record-keeping are complete and in
compliance with all government required regulations and
communications requirements, including but not limited to I-9,
EEO-1, VETS 100, OSHA 200.
- Ensures that HR systems’ business requirements are defined and
that systems in place are providing intended results. Consider
organizational objectives and plan for future business requirements.
- Oversees and develops compensation strategy, market data and
implementation of compensation practices that are aligned with
market and provide internal and external equity.
- Develops & designs Total Rewards programs to support employee
wellbeing, engagement, recruitment, and retention.
- Research "best practices" to inform the development of
and compliance with organizational policies, practices and
procedures. Provide Senior Leadership Team recommendations that
align with those organizational objectives and plans for future
business requirements.
- Design and management of high-quality performance management
tools. Ensures that the appraisal process adheres to all Zoo Atlanta
policy and standards.
- Oversees the planning and implantation of recruitment of all
full-time and seasonal positions to ensure the highest quality of staffing.
- Oversees all Occupational health and safety programs, including
but not limited to OSHA compliance, AZA safety compliance and
Workers Compensation
- Develop/source training programs, as needed.
- Serves as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, providing
Human Resource business consultation to support strategic and
operational objectives.
- Supports leaders to resolve employee relations matters.
- Supports Zoo Atlanta’s diversity initiatives and promotes programs
including employee, Board of Directors and vendor diversity.
Considers best practices in terms of programmatic enhancements and
identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Ensures that organizational communication vehicles are effective
and efficient, examples of which are suggestion boxes, employee code
of ethics and whistle-blower programs. Provides timely reporting and
constructive feedback and recommendations to senior management
regarding these communications.
- Develops an appropriate and well-planned communication protocol
for human capital matters. Ensure that HR communications are
executed in a timely, consistent, and sensitive manner.
- Oversees unemployment claims, represents organization in hearings
and monitors reports for trends to reduce cost.
- Interfaces, as appropriate, with external agencies and regulatory
bodies on all personnel matters.
- Performs other duties as workload necessitates.
