Job Description:

Job Purpose: Under the supervision of the Security Manager, the Security Supervisor carries out supervisory duties that can include some or all the following: interviewing, orienting and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and making hiring and termination recommendations. The Security Supervisor will manage shifts in the absence of a Security Manager. This position is an essential operating position(s) and as such, may be required to remain on and/or report for duty during declared emergencies or when necessary to support operational needs. Declared emergencies will be defined by the Director of Safety and Security or appropriate manager. In addition, Supervisors must be capable and willing to serve as a member of Zoo Atlanta’s Specialized Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.).

Schedule: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (Core Hours 10am - 6pm)

Responsibilities:

  • While on duty, respond immediately to open shifts; able to work extended hours when needed.
  • Provide direction on assigned shift to enforce security/safety programs and ensure posts orders are followed, established patrols are completed, and reports and logs are filed daily and weekly.
  • Assist in creating and managing work schedules.
  • Assists in the training of security officers and review of post orders ensuring officers have competent knowledge of assignments.
  • Communicate with manager, daily and weekly, regarding officer’s performance, security, and safety issues.
  • Prepares, files, and submits various reports as required.
  • Assists the Manager in delegating work, responsibility,
  • Assist with Investigations of accidents, incidents, and other unlawful activities.
  • Inspects and evaluates security officers for appearance, alertness, and proper performance.
  • Communicate company policies and procedures to all staff.
  • Inspect and security equipment used by the security officers.
  • Conduct briefings during shifts to inform officers of pertinent information regarding ZA.
  • Responds to alarms and dispatch calls; decides what actions to take based on situation, facts known and position limitations.
  • Perform routine patrols and escort duties when needed.
  • Document any irregularities on daily shift reports, incident reports, violation reports, injury forms and if necessary, work orders.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by manager or higher.

Experience and Skills:

Knowledge:

  • 5 yrs. of experience in security, military, or other public security experience preferred.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience within the past 5 years preferred.

Special skills and abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Good communication skills (both verbal and written), and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be flexible with excellent public relations skills.

EDUCATION:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or the equivalent. Degree preferred but not required.
  • Must pass all applicable background checks, pre-employment testing, and criminal history.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Must have a valid GA driver’s license and good MVR. All employees that drive Zoo vehicles/carts/operate a Ride (train, carousel, etc.) must consent to a MVR verification that is acceptable per Zoo Atlanta’s auto liability insurance carrier’s guidelines to perform this function).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift 50+ lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather. Employees are expected to work outside more than 50% of time, must be comfortable working in cold and hot weather conditions.
