Job Description:

Job Purpose:

The primary responsibility of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide primary care to Zoo Atlanta staff and guests for first aid, breathing emergencies, animal bites, and sudden illnesses. Emergency Medical Technicians will report directly to the Director of Occupational Health and Safety.

This position will be part-time on weekends only.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform and provide intervention and first aid services within your scope of practice to employees, guests, contractors, etc.
  • Interact with guests by providing first aid, information, directions, answering questions, etc. in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Maintain consistent radio contact with dispatch to ensure quick response.
  • Document and maintain accurate, detailed records related to interactions and treatment provided.
  • Maintain a clean work area and follow disinfection protocols.
  • Assist with inspections of medical supplies, first aid kits, AEDs, and other emergency equipment as assigned.
  • Assist the Director of Occupational Health and Safety with special projects aimed at improving first aid care and safety at Zoo Atlanta.
  • Must be dependable and willing to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be willing to support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission and Values statement.
  • Any other miscellaneous projects/assignments assigned by Zoo Atlanta’s Management Team.

Experience and Skills:

Knowledge:

  • Minimum of one year experience working in Emergency Medical Services.
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures, medical anatomy, and physiology.

Special skills and abilities:

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations.
  • Excellent organization and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate computer proficiency to complete the functions of this position.
  • Ability to work with staff members at all levels of the organization in a cooperative, team-oriented manner.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Education:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Must have and maintain current one of the following certifications: EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic.
    Have or be willing to obtain certification as a Licensed Training Provider for First Aid/CPR/AED through American Red Cross.

Driving Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to work both in an office environment and outdoors in all weather conditions.
