Job Description:

Job Purpose: This position reports directly to the Manager of Volunteer Programs. This supporting position will assist in the oversight of the youth volunteers and execution of adult volunteer programs during the peak summer season. Monitoring and evaluating teens on duty, assisting in communication, recognition, retention, record keeping, and training of Zoo Atlanta’s volunteers. The position requires enthusiasm and creativity as well as excellent skills in customer service, communication, leadership, and time management. This is a part-time position with a work schedule of Friday - Sunday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

JOB FACTORS

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with Volunteen Training week including set up, check in and check out, evaluations, and promoting positive experiences for all participants
    • Meet Volunteens prior to the morning and afternoon shifts, during lunch, and at the end of the day
    • Enforce all Zoo Atlanta and Volunteer policies
    • Evaluate and support volunteers during their shifts
    • Supervise volunteers during events while supporting the Public Events team
    • Ensure the safety of volunteers at all times, and perform emergency procedure responsibilities as necessary
    • Provide excellent guest service to all Zoo guests, and set an example for volunteers
    • Must be willing to support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission and Values statement

Any other miscellaneous projects/assignments assigned by Zoo Atlanta’s Education management team

Experience and Skills:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proven two (2) years of experience working with adolescents
  • At least (1) year of experience working with volunteers
  • Extremely strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Flexible schedule as weekend, holiday, and some evening work are required
  • Professional dress, appearance, and conduct
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.

EDUCATION:

Education level required for positions

  • Associate’s degree or two years of college education majoring in Education, volunteer management, Interpretation, Biology, Zoology, Environmental Education, or equivalent relevant major or relevant experience.

  • None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended lengths of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
